Golden Hour in Alderbury – A Three-Generation Session
As the sun began to dip behind the trees on the edge of Alderbury church near Salisbury, I had the pleasure of photographing a truly special session in a meadow bursting with summer colour. I joined 9-month-old Milton, his mum Amy, and her mum Hilary for a golden hour shoot full of love, laughter, and that dreamy evening light every photographer dreams of.
The meadow, nestled quietly behind the church, was alive with mid-length grasses and wildflowers gently swaying in the breeze. It was the perfect place for little Milton to explore. He sat contentedly in the grass, fascinated by the flowers around him — until, of course, he spotted my camera. Like most curious little ones, he made several determined efforts to crawl towards the lens, wide-eyed and giggling. I managed to avoid any tiny fingerprints on the glass, but seeing his fascination up close added such a fun and personal touch to the shoot.
As the session continued, Amy scooped Milton up into her arms, lifting him high into the air as she spun in the sunlight. The joy between them was tangible, and those candid, playful moments created some of my favourite images of the evening.
To complete the session, we included Hilary for a few portraits that celebrated the bond between three generations. Capturing all of them together — Milton’s soft baby smile, Amy’s loving gaze, and Hilary’s proud expression — felt like freezing a little slice of family history.
Every image from this shoot is softly lit with the golden tones of the setting sun, giving the collection a warm, timeless feel. Sessions like this remind me of how powerful photographs can be — not just as art, but as keepsakes of connection, growth, and love passed down through generations.
If you’d love to book a relaxed, heartfelt session like this for your family, I’d love to hear from you.
